THERE is a much bigger game going on around the problems at Fifa.

Firstly, I find it curious that evident and widely-known issues with ifs are being challenged by a country on the other side of world.

Switzerland is in the heart of Europe, has treaties with the EU. I ask myself where were the EU authorities during all these problems and why do Europeans have to rely on Americans to pursue potential crimes emanating from the heart of Europe, using the tenuous connection of transactions being conducted in dollars?

However, these points are a mere aside to the big game being played between the United States and Russia.

The World Cup is an opportunity to boost the host nation's image around the world, as well as providing a welcome boost to the national economy.

Now, who on earth wouldn't want that to occur for Russia?

Ah, the beautiful game.
