Why I opted to leave Scotland to go and teach in the Middle East

AS a former supply teacher in Scotland for many years I read Andrew Denholm's article with some interest ("New demand to scrap pay cut for teachers", The Herald, February 20).

The fact that local authorities in Scotland are now experiencing shortages of supply teachers was eminently predictable and last year I, like many others, joined an expanding new Scottish diaspora and reluctantly left my native land simply to earn a living.
