FOR once the UK Government has done Scotland a real and significant favour.

The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has announced that there will be no further eye-watering subsidies for onshore wind farms ("Minister calls for talks over wind farm subsidies", The Herald, June 5). Hopefully this bit of uncharacteristic wisdom will prevent the Scottish Government from fulfilling its foolish energy policy of generating the country's power requirements by building a windmill on every hilltop north of Gretna Green.
