Not what you voted for? Stop whining: it’s democracy, stupid

Here’s the new catchphrase of the moment: “That’s not what I voted for!” It’s being spluttered in indignation, by public and commentators alike, in response to the secondhand car salesmen double act now occupying Number 10.

This seems curious. Who, ever in the history of democracy, has “got what they voted for”?

For instance, I voted for Labour in 1997. Sure, they got in, but in no shape or fashion did I get what I voted for.
