Colin Crooks, who has died aged 87, was a teacher and former science adviser for Ayrshire.
He was educated at Ardrossan Academy, The Royal Technical College in Glasgow (now Strathclyde University) and at Glasgow University where he graduated, achieving a Bsc with wartime honours at the age of 19. He was then directed into industry at ICI's explosive factory at Ardeer, Stevenston.
