Prof Phyllis Deane

Economic historian;

Born: October 13, 1918; Died: July 28, 2012.

Professor Phyllis Deane, who has died aged 93, was born in colonial Hong Kong, educated in Glasgow and went on to become one of Britain's most influential experts and authors on economic history, notably Britain's industrial revolution. She enjoyed a 60-year association with Cambridge University and was an emeritus professor of economic history at the university when she died.
