In a radical series of measures to save £53m between 2009 and 2011, head teachers in Glasgow will be tasked with controlling their own budgets to save £4m, contributions to tourism promotion will be reduced, some home care will be cut, and social work management will be overhauled.
Opposition parties and unions were being briefed on the proposals yesterday, with Glasgow City Council last night insisting it was committed to a policy of no compulsory redundancies.
There will be a period of consultation before the proposals go before the council at next February's budget.
