Families in need

No one was prepared for the growing number of children whose parents are unable to care for them. Families and statutory authorities alike are struggling to cope with children damaged by neglect and abuse as a result of their parents' dependence on drugs and alcohol. Grandparents and relatives give up jobs and turn their lives upside down to prevent family bonds being severed by children being taken into care, but many, particularly pensioners, cannot afford basic items such as extra beds and bedding, far less the long-term costs of a new family.
