Well it was only a matter of time, wasn’t it?

Last week saw the announcement of the first Global Kids Fashion week, which will take place in London next March 2013! How utterly fabulous!

And before all you do-gooder know-it-all’s muster in with all that ‘exploitation’ rubbish, just consider this. Isn’t it great to have an online retailer such as AlexandAlexa.com who are innovative and creative to try and get people to spend in these challenging economic times? I know our purse strings are all tighter but this is about having fun with kids’ fashion and at the same time raising some money for a great charity – Kids Company.

The event schedule will features two main shows – an exclusive media event showcasing the latest AW13 trends from the world’s leading labels and a second ticketed event in aid of Kids Company. The second show is open to the public and will showcase current season (SS13) looks from AlexandAlexa’s brand portfolio.

An interesting anecdote here. I was on one my many Glasgow – London shuttles and sat next to a gentleman who was in the oil, gas and investment market. We got talking about fashion (as I do) and he told me he had just invested in an online retailer that was trying to become the ‘net-a-porter’ for kids! Mmm – ambitious plan and why not I thought. That was some years ago and I am pleased to say that no doubt that very gentleman will be self-congratulatory – as the said online retailer  alexandalexa.com is nailing it!

It’s probably not wise for all you parents out there not to share the web address with your brood as it will no doubt lead to much cajoling and moaning for the latest Roberto Cavalli Junior Trench coat or the gold metallic Bailey Boots from Ugg Australia that you can’t find in the shops. But my most favourite items are the vintage looking wooden toys such as the Moulin Roty wooden pram (just a shame my girls are teenagers now but I might have to buy it for Garry Spence’s twin girls…someone’s got to get it).

Yes their concept is a shrewd one I think. The event will include a mix of fun activities for children and parents, with workshops from the V&A Museum of Childhood, a performance from the London Children’s Ballet and an interactive bloggers lounge.

But like all fashion weeks there will be a must have ‘frow’ experience which will take the form of the finale to the week with a show which will cast a spotlight on premium kids’ fashion, from both established designers as well as emerging names. All ticket sales proceeds to the public show will be donated to the Kids Company Charity – bravo!

So you see it’s not just about the commercial aspect, it’s about educating and inspiring people to Kids’ fashion – to celebrate how this specialist sector has thrived and evolved over the past 5 years.

Founder of AlexandAlexa.com gets it about right when he says: ‘Kids’ fashion is playful, fun and innovative – we all believe it deserves its own dedicated platform. Which is why we are so proud to be supporting the very first Global Kids’ Fashion Week. With this event, we aim to put children’s fashion on the map worldwide’.

I have no doubt you will Sir but the question on everyone lips will be who is be sitting on the front row.  Oh I can see it now – a rush of publicists pitching siblings and off spring. Beckham brood would be a good start I guess!
