Prior to revealing his anticipated Spring Summer 2014 collection, Kane's camp announced that the Scottish designer will open a flagship store on London's Mount Street by the end of 2014. Thanks to funds from luxury investor Kering, Kane's first store will take his self-titled label into the big league when he joins Lanvin, Marc Jacobs and Vivienne Westwood at the exclusive shopping destination in Mayfair. In January 2013, Kering (previously known as PPR) acquired 51% of Kane's label with the investment intended to transform Kane's business into a global brand.
Siblings Christopher Kane (Creative Director) and Tammy Kane (Deputy Creative Director) said: "This is an incredibly exciting time for us. To have our own retail space gives us the chance to showcase our collections and to really express our vision. To open in London first was really important to us as this is where our label was born."
Kane's breaking news fuelled excitement at his Farmiloe Building show with attendees keen to see how the rising star had used his Kering cash. The Newarthill-born designer didn't disappoint with 54 models strutting down a glistening mirrored catwalk.
Not to be outdone by his fashion peers, Kane welcomed front row regulars Anna Wintour, Alexa Chung, Daisy Lowe and Pixie Geldof to his reflective runway alongside champion of young designers Samantha Cameron. The Scottish Fashion Awards winner impressed with his wearable pastel womenswear that was brought to life with shiny metallic highlights and clever teardrop cut-out detailing. Kane's colours of choice were black, silver, pastel pink, mint green, ivory and crisp white.
Simple silhouettes and ivory pleats felt fresh with botanical sketches of buttercups and orchids featuring heavily on sweatshirts, long skirts and delicate floral accessories. Kane's show stopping evening gowns were a major highlight as they glistened and flowed to a Pink Floyd soundtrack.
The heavily patterned collection spoke for itself as hair and make-up was completely pared back. Models were given a facial massage pre-show to ensure their skin glowed and their hair was washed in cleansing shampoo and encouraged to flow naturally.
After the show fashion insiders posted their appreciation for Kane on Twitter with prolific blogger Susie Bubble gushing that Kane's was "undoubtedly the show of the season so far". Fellow fashion writer Sasha Wilkins of Liberty London Girl went further posting that it was "the best show in years".
