Fashion Spy: saluting Edinburgh designer Holly Fulton

As a long time fan of Holly Fulton I was more than happy to brave a cold Sunday morning to see her Autumn/Winter 2013 collection.

For me Fulton’s show is always a highlight of fashion week. I feel an affinity with this Edinburgh girl done good and always look forward to seeing the latest versions of her trademark architectural prints. And I’m not alone.

The fashion pack were frenzied over the Fashion Forward Award winner’s rich red graphics and carefully crafted black leather. Influenced by 70s rockers and naughty flame haired vixen Poison Ivy, the show was full of geometric patterns, leather bikers and beautiful voluminous skirts that saw models nonchalantly strutting with hands slipped lightly into pockets.

Lipstick shaped bullets framed sleek dungaree dresses whilst bluebirds and lilies were intertwined with fences and printed on a clean white biker jacket for a bad girl twist.

Heart and animal motifs were present throughout with big cats, bears and snakes shimmering on printed satin organza. Highlights were a red chevron printed trouser suit, ruby red mohair and quilted leather detailing.

Clothes were accessorised with jewellery made of black wood and blue agate attached to jewel encrusted tops and crystal and pearl crosses. The casting was excellent with models pulling off the desired rock chick look effortlessly.

Of her latest collection Holly said: "Whereas SS13 took inspiration from the relentless optimism of sun kissed days in Los Angeles, AW13 looks to racy evenings in the Marais and an altogether darker feel for those winter nights. Fanzines, groupies and Victoriana all act as influences to create a bold collection of contemporary womenswear with the label’s signature entwined throughout."

Holly’s plans for 2013 include relocating to a new studio, expanding her team and working on a wider product range. She also plans to take a much deserved holiday in the Scottish islands. I can’t wait to see more of Holly’s printed and embellished pieces this year as her label continues to grow.

Her high-end contemporary womenswear completely embodies luxury wearable fashion and is more impressive with each season - another triumph for a member of the Scottish contingent on day three of London Fashion Week.
