Michael Winslow is an American actor, beatboxer and comedian known as the Man of 10,000 Voices who you may remember from '80s cult classics such as Cheech & Chong, Police Academy, Gremlins and Spaceballs.
I first met Michael a few years back and since then we have worked on a new EP, and toured together in the USA. I caught up with him to discuss what he has been up to and his star style...
1. What have you been working on since our tour in 2013?
I am currently working on my new show, creating a new pilot for Michael Winslow TV and getting some music out in to the world.
2. Is there any difference between the US and UK Market?
Honestly it varies. I find the energy in both places and the crowds are true. I love it.
3. Through your amazing career what has been the best project you have worked on?
Wow, all of my film projects have been amazing, it's impossible for me to pick one since I have gained so much from each and every one.
4. Do you prefer theatre or film?
Good question. If I had to prioritise those two it would be film, as it feeds my creative soul. Writing and directing ideas to life is an amazing experience. Theatre is where I am able to connect with my fans - they are tangible so it is just more important.
5. What is your ultimate period in terms of style in history?
I would have to say '80s and '90s, I had my own thing going on. I adopted styles from the '60s and '70s. I was younger, more daring and expressive when it came to my style. These days I have taken a more conservative approach.
6. Are there any styles that you would like to bring back?
I would love to bring back that laid back lifestyle of the '60s, you know peace and love were preached and those things always worked well with me.
7. If you could work with any artists either in music or film who would they be?
Jazzy B, Wiz Khalifa, Keith Richards, KRS One and Rahzel.
8. Is there anyone who has particularly inspired you?
Mel Brooks, Bill Cosby, Robin Williams, and Jimi Hendrix.
9. What have you got coming up in the future?
The new pilot will be ready to introduce to the world soon and new music. I will also be doing a world tour in 2015, details will be put on ww.michaelwinslow.net so stay tuned!
10. If you could own one pair of kicks in the world what would they be?
MW Noize Edition (maybe one day).
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
