Rite of Fashion

Scottish fashion designers of the future showcased their design talent at Glasgow School of Art's annual fashion show.

The latest cohort of Glasgow School of Art textiles students may as well have sent their models pirouetting onto the catwalk at The Arches venue in Glasgow wearing designs inspired by costumes for Ballet Russes' performances of Stravinsky's ballet, The Rite of Spring.

They were created as part of a collaborative project with the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Scottish Ballet and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

Third-year fashion and textile design students from Glasgow School of Art were tasked with creating the costumes for a new version of the famous ballet The Rite Of Spring, a century after the explosive collaboration by the composer Igor Stravinsky and choreographer Vaslav Nijinski was first performed.

Elaine Bremner, acting head of fashion and textiles, said: "The project has been an excellent opportunity for students to find a unifying theme for their collections."
