Scottish fashion was firmly on display in Manhattan, for the annual From Scotland With Love fashion show as part of Tartan Week 2013.

Held at Stage 48 in Hell’s Kitchen, New York, From Scotland With Love is billed as one of the most prestigious Scottish fashion events in the world.

The annual charity show featured a host of celebrities taking to the catwalk, including Miss Scotland Nicole Treacy, model Ling Tan, news anchor Chris Wragge, Scotland rugby hunk Richie Gray, actor Kevin McKidd and DJ Calvin Harris.

Designers from Scotland showcasing their work included Obscure Couture,  Henrietta Ludgate, William Chambers, Harris Tweed Hebrides and Iona Crawford.

There was also a Fashion Foundry section of the show which featured designers Mairi McDonald, Rebecca Torres, Saunt & Sinner and Hilary Grant, all developing their labels under the Scottish Enterprise scheme.

Mairi McDonald displayed a dress from her upcoming spring summer 2014 collection.

The designer said: “From Scotland with Love is a renowned annual showcase for both emerging and established Scottish designers.

The organisers of the event are so welcoming and encouraging and seem to embrace and celebrate Scottish design talent.  It can be a great way to come together with Scottish Textile firms to create catwalk pieces significant to our Scottish heritage.”

“I chose Scottish lace from MYB Textiles based in Ayrshire, a company founded in 1900 and who is now the only lace producer in the world manufacturing with original Nottingham Lace Looms. It was great to be a part of such an exciting event.”

The theme of this year was Scottish Lion Meets the Asian Dragon, to engage new Asian buyers and designers and to expand the commercial opportunities for Scottish designers.

Last month Scottish Enterprise, Textiles Scotland and Scottish Development International took 16 designers and textiles companies on a trade mission to the CHIC fashion trade show in Beijing.

The show also saw the US debut of the new Peace Tartan, as modelled by the grandson of the late Mahatma Gandhi, Arun Manilal Gandhi, 79, who wore a kilt made of the tartan.

The design – which features the colours light blue, purple, green, red and black – was launched when the Dalai Lama was presented with first ever World Peace Tartan scarf in Edinburgh in June, 2012.
