SPF sticks

There was a time when the concept of sun protection was limited to a few skooshes of factor 4 rubbed quickly on to limb and torso.

I remember my first foreign holiday. I was 10 years old and the destination was Majorca – Playa Del something or other. The suntan lotion (note the pro-tanning name; now we call it sun block or sun screen) was one of the first things to be packed. Factor 12 for the first few days and factor 8 for the rest of the two-week stay. We also took a bottle of factor 4 for the last few days, by which point our skin had apparently acclimatised.
