Kruger captivates Cannes

Diane Kruger dazzled in a show-stopping mint gown as she walked the red carpet on the first day of the Cannes International Film Festival.

A judge on the panel of the film festival, the actress had chosen a floaty corseted frock with an asymmetrical bodice and a flowing cape-like swathe of fabric that fell from her shoulder.

With such a high-impact creation drawing glances to the beautiful blonde, Diane kept her hair and accessories simple. She had tied her tresses up in a chic topknot and added understated diamond earrings and a silver bracelet to her outfit.

Earlier in the day Kruger had appeared in a more casual, but equally show-stopping maroon lace-up mini dress, from the Versus Fall 2012 collection.

Featuring elaborate embroidery and cut out back detailing, the fabulous floorsweeper required little jewellery. The stunning actress accessorised her dress with a pair of tiny diamond stud earrings and a shimmering silver clutch bag.

Freida Pinto also wowed on the red carpet in an unusual peplum creation.

The design featured a heavily sequined sweetheart bodice before widening into a full-length pink silk skirt with a revealing thigh split. Perhaps most interesting was the gown’s pastel colour theme, which stood out from the monochrome palette without being too garish.

The brunette beauty teamed the flirty frock with a silver belt and metallic high heels.

Jessica Chastain opted for a simpler yet elegant look, wearing a sculpted white Alexander McQueen creation that set off her red hair beautifully.

Music sensation Lana Del Rey had also chosen a more classic look, working gothic glamour for the cameras in a black gown with an interesting spiked neckline. The bombshell accessorised the plain design with a fragile diamond necklace and a black box clutch.

But the biggest dazzler in Cannes was perhaps supermodel Eva Herzigová, who wore an elaborate Chopard diamond necklace made in honour of the film festival's face, Marilyn Monroe.
