Six Degrees North

6 Littlejohn Street

Aberdeen,

What is it: Owner Robert Lindsay, who is also known as Brew Bob, is a bit of a legend up in these parts, thanks to his passion for Belgian brewing. In 2013, he opened the Six Degrees North brewery in Stonehaven's Marine Hotel. The name comes from the fact that the brewery is exactly six degrees north of Brussels, where he learned his craft. This city centre venue has built a loyal following. The interior is minimal and industrial but comfortable with the beer taking pride of place.

Interesting fact: Belgian beer dates back to the age of the first crusades, long before Belgium became an independent country. The relatively low-alcohol beer of that time was preferred as a sanitary option to available drinking water.

Verdict: Described as a mecca for craft beer enthusiasts and I couldn't agree more. It's not just Belgian beers here and staff are very on the ball when it comes to taking you through the extensive list. They also constantly change their draft offering to keep the regulars coming back for more.

Drink: The bar boasts six of the owner's own brews, 12 Belgian beers, six UK and European craft beers, six cask ales and more than 360 bottles. The venue stocks beer from its own Stonehaven brewery, as well as sourcing beers directly from Belgian breweries. I very much enjoyed a schooner of their own Wanderlust Wheat for £2.55.

Food:The menu offers snacks rather than big portions, but who cares when the beer is this good. I had the

chicken liver pate served with home-made beer chutney and oatcakes for £7.25.

Prices: Good value for money.

Alfresco: Small space out front on summer days

Children: Not really a place for the kids, leave it for the grown-ups.

Perfect for: Meeting up after work with friends to sample some great beers.

Avoid if: You were looking for a sit-down meal and some cocktails.
