The Butchershop Bar & Grill

The Butchershop Bar & Grill

1055 Sauchiehall Street

Glasgow

What is it: The Butchershop opened on the hipper end of Sauchiehall Street in 2010 and has built up a loyal following for its meat treats. James Rusk, the man behind it all, has created a friendly atmosphere. The venue overlooks Kelvingrove Park and has some stunning views when the weather is right. Its decor is inviting and sophisticated with wood flooring, leather-clad booths and exposed brick. It is reminiscent to what you would imagine an old American jazz club to be like.

Interesting fact: The meat is completely Scottish, and quite right too.

Verdict: I bring my work colleagues from London here when they come up as we can get a decent drink and a great steak. It always seems busy and there is a good cross-section of clientele.

Drinks: Good selection of wines, beers and cocktails. The cocktail list is made up of a selection of contemporary and classic concoctions, which the bar staff created with ease. I opted for a Bacardi daiquiri with Bacardi rum, fresh lime and sugar for £7.95.

Food: I have never been disappointed. I went for the crispy soft shell crab with seaweed and noodle salad, which was new to the menu; delicous and well priced at £9.95.

Price: You get value for money when it comes to the food. The drinks are fairly steep but are typical restaurant bar prices, with a pint of Heineken from £4.50 and a glass of white wine from £4.95. There are also various food special offers.

Alfresco: The outdoor area has just had a big refurbishment and has great views overlooking Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.

Children: Kid-friendly and very accommodating to their needs.

Avoid if: You are looking for a light veggie option, in which case you would probably be better trying The 78 around the corner.

Perfect for: Having a couple of drinks with friends and family before hitting the restaurant for the magnificent meat.
