The Glasgow Distillery Company, who also make Makar Gin and Speyside single malt Prometheus, is currently in the process of distilling the first whisky to be produced in the city in 112 years.

The company - owned by Liam Hughes and Ian McDougall - decided to proceed with the idea after realising the last single malt to be produced in Glasgow dated back to 1903, when the last distillery in the city shut.

Distillation equipment for the venture has been bought by the brand and production of the single malt has started.

In accordance with the law, whisky must remain in wooden casks for three years before it can be sold - meaning that a launch date for the city's new single malt is a way off yet.
