Bruschetta makes for the perfect starter for any Italian meal, and this week Yelpers from Glasgow and Edinburgh bring you their picks for the top spots to get your fix!

Cafe Antipasti

305 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow

"I selected goats' cheese, tomato and basil bruschetta for my starter as it is a good yardstick for Italian restaurants. It was amazing, especially the goats' cheese, which is one of my favourites," says Liz K.

Cafe Domenico

30 Sandport Street, Edinburgh

Robyn Z's verdict? "Each toasted piece of fresh bread was topped high with tasty ingredients accompanied by a sizeable portion of rocket and tomato salad dressed with olive oil. The combination of the sweet fig with the salty slightly pungent blue cheese and the crispy bread was like bruschetta heaven in my mouth."

La Fiorentina

2 Paisley Road West, Glasgow

Leanne R "opted for the bruschetta. The bread was toasted to perfection with just the right amount of garlic. The tomatoes were fresh, juicy and plentiful and the side salad with balsamic vinegar topped it off a treat."

Caffe e Cucina

372 Morningside Road, Morningside, Edinburgh

Lunch plans a la Emily H? "Last time we were in, I got the soup of the day and bruschetta (four huge pieces with cheese, walnuts, and something red and leafy) for a total of about £8.50 and couldn't hope to finish it all."

Sapori d'Italia

1102 Cathcart Road, Glasgow

Sarah G "chose the goats cheese and pepper bruschetta whilst my pal had the classic tomato and we shared. Big chunks of fresh bread topped with really simple yet delicious flavours, good portion sizes for the price too."

Amarone

13 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh

If you're looking for something hearty, Jurgen D promises that here, "the starter was huge! Two massive piece of bruschetta with fresh tomatoes, lots of garlic, rocket and balsamic. Simple and delicious."

Paperino's

227 Byres Road, Glasgow

"The bruschetta was tasty, the tomatoes crisp and visible leaves of basil," says Caley M.

Osteria del Tempo Perso

208 Bruntsfield Place, Edinburgh

Travelling with a group? Take a tip from Gordon F, "our group demolished a selection of veggie goats cheese bruschetta, mushrooms, ham and cheese platter. We had so much fun during lunch that an hour just flew by."

Zizzi

8 Cresswell Lane, Glasgow

Adrian E "started with one of the daily specials, a prosciutto honey fig "bruschetta". It wasn't bruschetta in the traditional sense, it was more like a small pizza, tasty and delicious. It was topped with mozzarella, prosciutto, arugula, honey and figs. The saltiness of the prosciutto blended well with the honey and figs."

Vittoria

19 George IV Bridge, Old Town, Edinburgh

If you've got a big appetite: "I had the bruschetta to start which, be warned, is a rather generous portion but very tasty nonetheless," says Joanne H.
