What's grey, full of skate magazines, and not too short on promise either?

That'd be Devils Deli, on Hyndland Street in Partick, which opened just a few weeks ago.

Not content with offering customers a meat-tastic (real word) selection of beautiful sandwiches, the boys at Devils Deli also smoke their own meats on-site and serve up Dear Green Coffee, all within the confines of a pleasingly minimalist interior. That's where the grey features - in the decor, thankfully rather than food.

Any potential punters concerned this is a one-trick pony only capable of churning out Man vs Food-type edibles are sadly mistaken. This is a place breathing fresh, pastrami-scented air into its competitors' faces thanks to a well-edited menu, a purist's commitment to classic flavour combinations and most importantly of all, enthusiastic and impressive dedication to the ways of the condiment.

The haiku

Help me lord, for I

Have sinned: three inches of meat

Never felt better.

Lunch at Devil's Deli for two including the Reuben - an 8-hour smoked pastrami sandwich with sauerkraut and swiss cheese - and a Cubanos - roasted ham and pork, mustard, and pickles - costs around £10. For more information on the café visit www.twitter.com/devilsdeli
