Frankie's Fish and Chips in Shetland, The Bridge in Clackmannanshire, The Trawler in Sutherland, Dinos and The Chip Box in Ayrshire and Moore's Fish and Chips in Dumfries and Galloway are all in the running to be crowned regional Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop of the Year at the 2014 awards, organised by Seafish.
The six shops, which have been judged on their initial entries and subjected to a mystery visit, will now compete against each other for the title.
The overall winner will be announced at the awards ceremony at the Lancaster London Hotel on January 22 2014.
Paul Williams, CEO of Seafish, said: "Every year we see the standard of shops getting higher and higher and this year will be no exception. Seafish has been running the awards for 26 years and the calibre of entries demonstrates the battle for the national title will be as fierce as ever.
"The National Fish and Chip Awards have not only improved the standards of the industry and raised awareness of the issues surrounding sustainable fishing practices, but it has also generated additional revenue for the businesses involved adding to the shop's cachet."
The National Fish and Chip Awards recognise the quality and choice offered by fish and chip shops across the UK and aim to find the best talent and highest standards in the fish frying industry.
