Brewers to unveil latest tipples at craft beer event

Two top Scottish brewers say they can’t wait to let fans taste their latest offerings at the Herald’s first Craft Beer event.

Tryst Brewery and Innis and Gunn are among five independent brewers who will be showcasing their best beers and ales at the event in Citation, Glasgow on Sunday, March 24.

Beer fans are definitely in for a treat as Tryst will be bringing their new double chocolate porter and Amarillo, while Innis & Gunn will be presenting their delicious Irish whiskey cask and signature beer, I&G Original.

Leila Arfa, of Innis & Gunn, said: “These are the beers that best represent us, especially I&G Original because that’s how the story started. “As we gain confidence and fans we get the opportunity to expand the beers we are doing and we have a few more things coming out this year that we’ve not done before. We’ve invested a lot in new technology that allows us to work with different finishes and now we can put the barrel finish into the beer. We’ve done it with our spiced rum and we’re just about to bring out a lager as well. “We can’t wait for the event. It’s important that you put the product in people’s hands and in a small country like Scotland it makes sense that we all work together. At the end of the day people are going to end up in a shop with lots of bottles of beer in front of them and the more they know about Scottish independent brewers, the more chance there is that they will pick a smaller brand.” James Scott, of Tryst Brewery, said: “It’s important to have events like these because they raise the profile of craft beer and the understanding of what Scottish craft brewers are doing. “We are very much craft brewers and John (the owner and brewer of Tryst) has his own recipes that he has developed over the last 10 years. “We are starting to brew some new ones, we’ve got single variety hops and we’re getting into wheat beers and experimenting with adding flavours into them. “We’re bringing along the double chocolate porter and Amarillo to let people see what we are doing that’s different to other brewers. We’re really excited about people tasting the porter. We think it will go down quite well.” The afternoon, which will be led by the Herald’s award-winning drinks writer Tom Bruce-Gardyne, will include premium beer tasting, fine food, entertaining anecdotes and lively discussions about the diversity, quality and heritage of Scottish craft brewing. It is supported by Alchemy Brewery, Eden Brewery St Andrews, Fyne Ales, Innis & Gunn and Tryst Brewery.
