A new range of sustainably sourced Scottish seafood has been launched in a leading supermarket.

Galloway’s Scottish whole tail scampi and chilli king prawns are currently being sold in Asda.

The scampi contains langoustine tails that have been caught off the west coast of Scotland, while the Scottish prawns are also sustainably sourced.

Michael Mitchell, from Sco-Fro Galloway, said: “The response we’ve had to so far has been tremendous. We are pleased that it has taken off and people are getting behind it because we think that it is important to get fish, prawns and scampi sustainably sourced.

“Scotland should be eating more scampi because, in terms of sustainability and fishing, it is a very valuable species.

“We have got other products in the pipeline and we are hoping to launch a sustainably sourced Scottish haddock next year.”

Brian Conway, Asda Local Buyer for Scotland, said: "We’re delighted to be one of the first stores to stock Galloway's Scottish Whole Scampi.

"It’s also really important to Asda and our customers that the product is sustainable and can be traced from sea-bed to shelf."
