First taste

Opened six months ago, Harley's Coffee House is a small and friendly place where you can enjoy breakfast, a light lunch or a quality home bake. What sets this place apart is the focus on serving food which meets just about every dietary requirement, whether it's for customers eating on the premises or for larger outside catering. Even summer picnic baskets (at £20 for a family of four) can be made fresh to order with any combination of gluten free, vegetarian, vegan or dairy-free options.

One slice or two?

While the range of home baking is limited to three or four options per day, owners Jade Harley and Karen Leckie are known to whip up batches of gluten-free cookies, cupcakes and other delights on request, ensuring there's a fresh option for everyone. Cupcakes (chocolate orange, vanilla, lemon meringue, mint chocolate, salted caramel …), meringues, scones, cinnamon rolls, individual cheesecakes and a "kitchen sink" traybake (as it sounds - packed with lots of goodies) are regulars. The average cost is £2 per item.

Critic's choice

The chocolate orange cupcake is gorgeous with its deep chocolatey sponge, beautiful swirl of orange buttercream and little drizzles of chocolate on top.
