Star rating: **** Quebec's Minister of Culture was present to support her countrymen, but could not fail to have been impressed by openers, Liadan. Six Irish girls playing traditional music and making it sound very fresh indeed. The multi-part harmonies on closer P Stands For Paddy were spot-on.

Quebecois musical culture has been well represented at this festival and Genticorum were another splendid example. They were recently voted Canada's best folk ensemble and it's easy to see why. Pascal Gemme on fiddle, feet and vocal, Alex de Grosbois-Garand on flute, bass and vocal and Yann Falquet on guitar, jaw harp and vocal whipped up a storm and despite the curious decision to make this a seated gig, the crowd managed to move with them. Irresistible stuff.
