Billy Reid, the Hamilton manager, insists the Clydesdale Premier League newcomers are determined not to be on the receiving end of an upset when they host Clyde tonight.
Hamilton provided one of the shocks of last season's League Cup competition by knocking out top-flight Kilmarnock with a 2-0 victory early in their title-winning campaign.
However, Reid says that the SPL's fourth-placed side are more than capable of booking their place in the third round draw by reproducing the form which has already seen them beat Dundee United and Inverness in the league.
"We're an SPL club and Clyde will see us as a big scalp, but we'll be up for the match and if we play the way we can, we should win the game," said Reid. "We're the home side, so we have to get plenty of possession, pass the ball and make the park big, but we have a great group of players who I believe in and this is a good opportunity for us.
"SPL clubs all want to go as far as they can in the cups and we're no different - there are always shocks in this competition every year and we just have to make sure we aren't one of them. We were favourites last year in winning the first division and we handled that no problem, and this is another game that we're really looking forward to."
The cup tie gives Hamilton an immediate chance to bounce back from their first SPL defeat of the league season, the lost 1-0 away at Kilmarnock.
Alex Neil, the captain and defender Mark McLaughlin were both injured in the Rugby Park game, which will force Reid to change his starting line-up for the first time this season for the visit of his former team.
The Broadwood outfit's last visit to Hamilton saw the hosts clinch the league title last April, and Reid said of his former side: "I'm quite sure they'll remember that and want to make amends.
"They've changed personnel quite a bit since then as John Brown the Clyde manager has freshened the squad up with young lads, but I watched them in their opening game against Morton so we know what to expect.
Brown will be without three experienced players, with defender Neil McGregor (knee), midfielder Willie McLaren (ankle) and striker Gary McSwegan all out.
Midfielder Marvyn Wilson returns to one of his former clubs as he continues his comeback from a ban.
