Andreana Adamson has been assigned to work on a project away from the South Lanarkshire site, which houses some of Scotland's most dangerous prisoners, for the duration of the inquiry.
It follows claims that seven senior managers wrongly received payments totalling £50,000 from a fund which allows an additional allowance to be given to staff who deal directly with rapists and murders.
Former chairman Gordon Currie said that if the allegations were true they were "morally indefensible".
