Gary Twigg, the Brechin City winger, has warned tonight's Scottish Cup opponents St Mirren that he knows from experience just how hard it can be for full-time teams at Glebe Park.
Twigg was a member of the Hamilton Accies side that just edged past Brechin in the competition last season because the second division team were found to have fielded two ineligible players.
The 24-year-old started the 0-0 draw at New Douglas Park and was then an unused substitute as the part-timers surprised Accies with a 2-1 victory in Angus, only to be thrown out of the competition when it emerged Michael Paton and Willie Dyer should not have played in the replay.
Twigg is now hoping the appointment of new manager Jim Duffy on Friday will improve City's hopes of a cup upset in this evening's re-arranged tie.
Now the former Derby County, Airdrie United and Oxford player is hoping St Mirren will find it as tough as he and his Hamilton team-mates did at Glebe Park 12 months ago.
He said: "The manager coming in will give us a wee boost but we're facing an SPL side at home in the cup, so I do not think we need much boosting, we'll certainly be up for it anyway.
"It was frustrating that the game was called off on Saturday because we were all looking forward to it and we were prepared for it.
"I know from last season how difficult it can be to play at our ground, I think everybody knows it's a difficult place to go to.
"We know they've got better players than we have so we'll just try and make it as hard as possible for them on the night.
"We want to unsettle them and give them as difficult a game as possible and, hopefully, we can pull off a wee shock."
Duffy was last night due to take his first training session since his appointment but it remains to be seen how involved he will be against St Mirren.
