DOES spring make you think of flowers? It’s a welcome sight, those splashes of yellow and purple provided by daffodils and crocuses by the roadside, after the grey days of winter, says Ann Wallace.

Adding some vases of fresh flowers around the house is all very well, but why not go the whole hog and overhaul your interior design?

The floral motif on soft furnishings and furniture is not new, but it does enjoy a revitalised lease of life at this time of year, as designers go all out to add colour and pattern to proceedings.

Finnish brand Vallila’s – considered a bit of a trendsetter at home and abroad – collection of textiles and accessories is inspired by bold Scandinavian flowers, and its new range is a bold, colourful and contemporary take on the popular flowery theme.

As well as eyecatching bed linen and rugs – such as the Alma bedset in Frost, £45.90 and the Alppila rug from £37.90 – for bedrooms, there are cool cushions (such as the Sinilintu in Black, £13.90) and brilliant wallpapers (such as the Metsovaara Elle Wallpaper in Blue, £39.90.) Not for the faint-hearted, the latter is a bold statement in any room, and works well as a dynamic feature wall in sitting or dining rooms.

Or, you could brighten up a study or breakfast room with some delightfully bright curtains (such as the Malva Sininen Fabric, £19.90 per metre)

The full Vallila collection includes fabrics, rugs, ready-made curtains, cushion covers, kitchen textiles, bed linen, shower curtains, bathroom textiles and dinnerware. Their vibrant colours and bold designs also extend to wallpaper collections, ceramics and tote bags.
