How Islam invented a bright new world

Few of us realise how much of what we take for granted today originated in the Muslim east. Now a major new exhibition is shedding light on a forgotten history, finds Cate Devine

We all know that thousands of familiar items were invented, discovered or created by Scottish ingenuity. The television, Tarmac, penicillin, radar and, more recently, Dolly the sheep are just some of them.
