Brahim Hemdani: Magnificent. Every time Lyon threated, it was he jabbing a foot or head in to thwart them.
OLYMPIQUE LYON
- Remy Vercoutre Blameless for the first two goals but could have forced issue with Beasley for the third by coming out quicker 5
- Anthony Reveillere Had fun trying to combat McCulloch's strength and unable to exert his will on his direct opponent 5
- Sebastien Squillaci Unpleasant evening. Was sucked under the ball for McCulloch's goal and booked for a bear hug on compatriot Cousin 5
- Cleber Anderson Should have been tighter to Cousin at the second goal, preventing him from turning so easily and also failed to track the run of Beasley for third. Late header off the bar typified his evening 5
- Fabio Grosso Attacked with great gusto, probing space behind Hutton on several occasions. His fellow Italians must grimace at his defending, mind you. Indulged in a spot of nuzzling as his frustration with Hutton grew 6
- Mathieu Bodmer Elegant midfielder was a disappointment. Played prohibitively deep and failed to impact in his hour of action 4
- Juninho Pernambucano Showed flashes of real class, and was one of the few who looked like sparking something. Fizzed efforts off both the bar and a post and forced McGregor into a couple of decent saves 7
- Kim Kallstrom Tried to carve opportunities and create angles but apart from one effort skidded just wide, struggled for success 5
- Sidney Govou Anonymous for a player of his ability. Movement not coupled with impact 4
- Milan Baros Roamed Rangers' defensive line but rarely looked anything more than a minor irritation before being hooked 5
- Karim Benzema Along with Juninho, young striker was the most convincing danger but reaped no reward for his toil 6
Substitutes - Hatem Ben Arfa On for Bodmer and flickered with one delightful reverse ball Grosso wasted 5
- Kader Keita Replaced Baros on hour but struggled to impact 4
- Francois Clerc gave Reveillere a brief rest n/a
Rangers - Allan McGregor Groped at air as Juninho's free-kick rattled his bar but seemed to have a later effort covered as it battered a post. Produced several competent stops - and one cracker - as the hosts searched for a riposte 7
- Alan Hutton Engaged in an engrossing battle down the flank with Grosso. Exposed sporadically but the Scot advanced well to offer outlet and assist second goal 6
- Carlos Cuellar Rarely lost a ball into the box, the Spaniard's muscle complements defensive partner's reading of the game 7
- David Weir You suspect he stifled a yawn when encountering burglars earlier this year. Nothing seems to trouble his tranquility despite being mugged by a Juninho dive for a booking 7
- Sasa Papac Overcame a shaky start to completely silence Govou. Tried to support when the chance arose 6
- Brahim Hemdani Magnificent. Every time Lyon threated, it was he jabbing a foot or head in to thwart them 8
- DaMarcus Beasley Superb delivery for first goal, released Hutton for the second, and added a composed finished for third. Defensively disciplined, this was his best game since arriving 7
- Barry Ferguson Chased and harried enthusiastically but was always available and willing to take a look up and play a pass 7
- Kevin Thomson Mature display combining tenacity with technique against quality opposition 7
- Lee McCulloch Bristled with physicality throughout, exemplfied by great header for goal. Solid shift as loan striker later on 6
- Daniel Cousin May appear a touch louche at times but the Frenchman exhibited a great touch and turn for his goal and delivered a staggering ball for second 7
Substitutes - Steven Whittaker brought on to relieve Cousin and stiffen midfield for an ultimately comfortable denouement 5
- Nacho Novo scampered around in place of McCulloch 5
- Charlie Adam Couple of minutes in place of Beasley n/a
