Star rating: *** Dir: Chan-wook Park With: Seu-jeong Lim, Rain This weird and whimsical film from South Korea's Chan-wook Park marks a change of tone - if not style - for the feted filmmaker who secured his place in world cinema with his shocking revenge trilogy Sympathy for Mr Vengeance, Old Boy, and Lady Vengeance. It's a comic-serious romance about a girl who thinks she's half robot and a kleptomaniac boy who steals other people's fantasies, who meet and fall for one another in a mental hospital. Though it's cute and candy-coloured compared to his dark and disturbing revenge films, I'm a Cyborg does share with Chan-wook's other films a striking semi-cartoon visual style and a philosophical view that it's love that makes this perilous world go round.
