I was at Lockerbie: I rejoice that Megrahi is going home

I read the Bible every day." That's what Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al Megrahi told me when I went to visit him in prison. He would have seen these words of Sacred Scripture: "The Lord is kind and full of compassion, slow to anger, abounding in love, compassionate to all his creatures" (Psalm 144); "And the words of Jesus, Blessed are the merciful, they shall have mercy shown them' " (Matthew 5, 7) I experienced Lockerbie. The main section of Pan Am 103 crashed into Sherwood Crescent, where I was living. Eleven of my neighbours, all of whom I knew and loved, died in the subsequent explosion and inferno. Pan Am flight 103 had crossed the border into Scottish airspace. It was bombed out of the sky. This was an act of despicable terror that brought unimaginable grief to Lockerbie and to all families whose loved ones died on the plane. Terrorism had shown that it is not halted or restricted by any border.
