This indie charmer, first seen at the Edinburgh Film Festival a year ago, now has a date with a wider audience. It's one worth turning up for, particularly if you're partial to moody monochrome romances. Recently heartbroken scriptwriter Wilson (Scoot McNairy) is looking for a happy ending to his first New Year's Eve in LA. Via a personal ad he meets the troubled Vivian (Sara Simmonds), who makes Britney Spears look like a Zen mistress. A tense first meeting turns into a long day of eating, drinking and agonising over whether they'll make it to midnight, never mind beyond. Though Alex Holdridge's Before Sunset-style romance has its lulls, it's funny, tender and moving.
