I am happy to accept Donald Buchanan's nit-pick that the Union is not "for all time", if both England and Scotland were to reject it. Where I disagree with him, David Purdie and Alex Orr (August 18) is their assertion that Scotland alone can decide the end of the Union (highly unlikely anyway with independence securing the support of only 23% of resident Scots in the latest poll).
