Jack Jones

Trade union leader; Born March 29, 1913; Died April 21, 2009. Jack Jones, who has died aged 96, worked his way up from the docks of Liverpool to lead the powerful Transport and General Workers' Union (TGWU). To his members, he was a charismatic defender of workers' rights; to his critics, he was partially responsible for the militant trade unionism that ushered in 18 years of Thatcherism.
