Labour's surprise election victory in Glenrothes

You can't argue against a majority of 6700 and 55% of the votes cast in the Glenrothes by-election. There may have been a small swing to the SNP, but this was a resounding, if unexpected, win for Labour, and the SNP honeymoon is definitely over. How did the opinion polls and all the pundits (and even the bookmakers) get it so wrong?
