Bar Soba
11 Mitchell Lane
Glasgow
What is it? Bar Soba is located in a secluded lane just off bustling Buchanan Street in Glasgow city centre. The Asian-themed bar and restaurant has, over the last 13 years, been one of Glasgow's trendiest and most diverse establishments. Known for its authentic pan-Asian cuisine and pre-club nights, Bar Soba describes itself as having a chameleon character which changes as it moves from day to night. The venue is split over two levels, the décor is minimalist and stylish with many cool Asian pieces dotted around. The dim lighting makes it feel tranquil and relaxed even though you are yards from shopping Nirvana/Hell.
Interesting fact Bar Soba offers cocktail masterclasses where people can learn the art of mixology.
Verdict When I first moved to Glasgow, Bar Soba was the coolest place I had ever been in. The staff have always been super-stylish and hip. It will always have a place in my heart as one of the first places in Glasgow to do "proper" cocktails and the food has always been excellent. It has a loyal following of regulars and the pre-club nights are legendary. It may be not as hot as it used to be but it is still a hip haven.
Signature drink I enjoyed the Drumstick Caprioska with Stoli vanilla vodka & Stoli raspberry vodka smashed with lime and sugar, which creates a flavour reminiscent of your favourite childhood treat. An acceptable £5.95
Food I have always loved eating here but bear in mind that if you don't like Asian food you'll probably not like it. I had the Southern Vietnamese Beef Pho – clove, star anise & cinnamon broth, Asian herbs, rice noodles, wild mushrooms and seared beef slices – which was delicious at £11.95
Price Pint of lager £3.50; cocktails fron £5.95 to £6.95
Children Allowed in until 6pm
Toilets Simple and clean
Alfresco No outside area
Avoid if you're not into Asian food or wasabi in your Bloody Mary's
Perfect for pre-club DJs and entertainment

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
