Are these Eames chairs? The conversation stops. My four sisters seem to know more about this than I do but I get down on my knees anyway and look at the label underneath. Yes, Charles Eames. Designed in 1956. A modern classic. Possibly four grand a pop. There are half a dozen stools scattered around where we're sitting too. My teacup is sitting on one. Definitely Eames as well. Uh-oh – almost a grand each. There's laughter as I gingerly lift my saucer clear.
