There will be plenty to tempt the palate as top chefs and culinary experts including Paul Hollywood, James Martin, Tom Kitchin, Paul Hollywood and the doyenne of family cookery, Mary Berry, descend on Glasgow for BBC Good Food Show Scotland. In addition to talks and live demonstrations, the three-day event features hundreds of exhibits including artisan produce, tasting sessions and sweet-toothed treats.
If all that makes for thirsty work, the Bubbly Champagne Bar is stocked with boutique-style tipples from small independent French producers.
Tickets range from £19.25 (standard) to £69 (VIP). Open 10am-6pm (Friday and Saturday) and 9.30pm-5.30pm (Sunday).

2 SPT Subway Family Fun Day
Glasgow, Sunday
Five Subway stations around Glasgow are gearing up for a day of family-friendly activities. There will be storytelling sessions at Ibrox station, Amazing James The Magician will visit Hillhead and look out for Bob Bonkers Balloon Artist at St Enoch.
Shields Road will be laying on face-painting, while nearby Scotland Street School Museum is hosting a special free exhibition, The Games We Play, with the chance to create your own Japanese carp kite.
Pop into Damselfly Crafts, only a stone's throw from Kelvinbridge station, to rustle up a papier mache masterpiece. The fun day runs from 12-4pm, but for individual timings check the SPT website.

3 The Fit Festival
Assembly Rooms, Edinburgh, Saturday and Sunday
Be it coveting a healthier lifestyle, losing weight or training for your next sporting challenge, this inaugural health and fitness exhibition in Edinburgh will have you raring to go.
The two-day programme features masterclasses from industry experts and taster sessions including callanetics, yoga and Booiaka, a class which incorporates elements of different dance styles including Latin, Brazilian, Jamaican and Hip Hop.
Doors open at 10am both days with general admission tickets £10.

4 Steam Gala
Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway, Bo'ness, Saturday and Sunday
If the words Morayshire BR no 62712 makes your heart beat a little bit faster then look no further. Among the locomotives included in the Steam Gala at Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway, the aforementioned engine is a star of the screen featuring in the cult television series Outlander which is currently taking the US by storm.
In addition, there will be freight demonstrations both days with a steam-hauled Beerex train running on Saturday evening. For timetables, check out the website. Return journeys start from £9 (adult) and £5 (child); family day rover tickets £58.

5 Scottish National Track Championships
Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, Glasgow, Friday to Sunday
Double Commonwealth silver medallist Louise Haston will be in action at the 2014 Scottish National Track Championships at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow.
Haston, who piloted triple Paralympic champion and visually-impaired rider Aileen McGlynn, will be joined on the boards by fellow Team Scotland stars including Charline Joiner, Eleanor Richardson and Anna Turvey.
The three-day event marks the first major competition to be held at the velodrome since the Commonwealth Games. Tickets cost £7.50 (Friday) and £15 (Saturday and Sunday), although for a limited period there is up to 50% off through Groupon.

6 Pirates and Princesses Week
Deep Sea World, North Queensferry, until Sunday
There will be swashbuckling fun ahoy with activities including adventures in search of lost treasure, storytelling, face-painting and tug o' wars.
Regular exhibits include Amazon, Lake Malawi and Krakatoa, the latter home to the colourfully named Yellow Saffin Tang, Blue Damsel, Green Chromis, Domino Damsel and Batfish. Deep Sea World also boasts the UK's longest underwater walkthrough tunnel.
Open daily from 10am. Any child wearing full pirate or princess fancy dress until from now until Sunday will be admitted free when accompanied by one full-paying adult. Arrrrrr, what are you waiting for?

Scotland's only festival exclusively focusing on contemporary dance, the programme offers a lively mix of performances, films and classes.
The Scottish premiere of David Hughes Dance Scotland presenting Trialogue: Three Modern Classics is at the Lemon Tree on Saturday.
An eclectic triple-bill, it includes work originally created for the legendary ballet icon Mikhail Baryshnikov, a piece by the choreographer to Kylie Minogue, and a "new classic" created by Hughes inspired by the tales of The Brothers Grimm.

8 John Byrne: Sitting Ducks
Scottish National Portrait Gallery, until Sunday
If you haven't caught John Byrne's Sitting Ducks exhibition at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, this weekend marks your last chance.
Among the brilliant works included in the collection are portraits of Billy Connolly, Robbie Coltrane, Tilda Swinton and Byrne himself. There is also a short film in which the artist explains how he chooses his subject matter. Admission free.

9 The Great War
Edinburgh Castle, Saturday and Sunday
Centred around the Gordon Highlanders, this fascinating event gives insight into the lives of Scottish soldiers during World War One.
It features intriguing nuggets on wartime recruitment, the chance to try on kit and take part in an army training session as well as stories from the trenches including how wounded soldiers were cared for and Edinburgh Castle's vital role as a military hospital. The event runs both days from 12pm-4pm and is included in normal admission price.

10 Race The Castles
Royal Deeside, Saturday and Sunday
The 2015 World Orienteering Championships will be held in Inverness next August, but before then Royal Deeside will provide a taster.
Race The Castles, part of the Year of Homecoming Scotland 2014, will see 1000 top international competitors traverse the forests and sand dunes surrounding Balmoral and Forvie.
The field includes 2013 World Orienteering Championships sprint silver medallist Scott Fraser and reigning British sprint orienteering champion Murray Strain, both competing for Scotland.
