Glen Almond is a magnificent long glen which carries the River Almond from its source on Creag Uchdag, high above Loch Tay, to its confluence with the Tay near Perth.

This pleasant cycle route starts from the village of Pitcairngreen before following a section of the glen. You could extend it by using national route 77 to reach the village from Perth; this gives an additional return distance of 14 miles (23km).Follow cycle route signs towards Moneydie to meet the B8063 then turn left, up Glen Almond. The road leads by farmland with a gentle climb for around six miles. Ahead, the view is of more formidable country – the start of the hills which encircle Loch Tay.Fear not, because as the hills draw closer the road drops suddenly down to cross the River Almond into Buchanty. The route doubles back on itself now, heading east down the glen towards Methven. This side of the glen gives great cycling. First there is a gently undulating section where road signs caution about crossing red squirrels. Pedal on past Glenalmond boarding school to the start of a long downhill run. Turn right at the bottom where you meet a T-junction. Still on minor roads continue, uphill at first, to reach a set of crossroads. Turn left to wind your way back over the Almond and into Pitcairngreen for an easy finish.
