This meandering loop gives a pleasant ride through the Lothian countryside on the attractive Pencaitland Railway Path and mainly quiet roads.

From Whitecraig join the southbound signed National Cycle Route 1. Shortly after passing under a bridge branch left at the sign for the rail path and continue to follow blue signs for Ormiston to reach it after a section on the A6124. There is a car park where the rail path begins.Rosehips and blackberries by the path add colour as you make your way through what was the East Lothian coalfield on this line, built in 1901. Note that there are a couple of road crossings before reaching the track end at Saltoun Station. Here turn right and then first right to pass through Peastonbank, home to the Glenkinchie Distillery.Continuing, mainly minor roads are followed to give easy cycling for the return. Take the next left and cycle on to reach a T-junction. Turn right, joining the B6371, and in just over a mile take the second left to intersect the B6367 where you go right. At the following junction with the A6093, bear left and in 300 metres turn right onto a minor road. Follow this for Cousland. Take a right turn at the far end of the village to meet the A6124 and go right to rejoin the outward route back to Whitecraig.
