The walk East Mount Lowther

Location: Wanlockhead, Dumfries and Galloway

Map: OS Landranger 71 (GR878100)

Distance: 11 miles (18km)

Time: 5 hours

Terrain: hill paths and tracks

Despite their rounded nature, the Lowther Hills are scoured in all directions by surprisingly deep, steep-sided valleys separated by broad elevated ridges. This route connects the ridges on the north and south sides of the Mennock Pass, using a mix of tracks, hill paths and the Southern Upland Way with a halfway stop at Wanlockhead, the highest village in Scotland.
