First taste

Gloagburn Farm has much to offer: a farmyard with cows, pigs and hens, a play area where little imaginations can run wild, a farm shop and a spacious, beautifully-designed coffee shop where all food is homegrown, home-produced and homemade. With all the natural light, pale decor, solid wood furniture and glorious views over the countryside, it's the perfect place to enjoy everything from tea and scones to chilled wine and freshly baked cheese souffles.

One slice or two?

The range of home baking is outstanding in quality and choice. A typical day sees the glass cabinet filled with glossy strawberry tarts, empire biscuits, rich gingerbread, lemon meringue pie, pecan pie, rhubarb and cinnamon cake, carrot cake, traybakes, scones and a very voluptuous-looking berry pavlova. Average cost is £2.95 per slice.

Critic's choice

For the ultimate feel-good bake, try the apple, pear and cranberry crumble tart served warm with a dusting of icing sugar (or ice-cream, custard, cream…)

Between the generous fruit filling and that wonderfully short, crumbly topping which is so appealing, it makes for the perfect comfort food.
