What is it?

IOS Smartphone

How will it change my life?

There's something to be said for biding your time when it comes to choosing a smartphone. The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were released in the UK in September and swiftly became Apple's best-selling product to date, shifting more than 10 million in three days. Six months on, with the lion's share of early bugs and irksome quirks ironed out, now is the time to put it through its paces.

Good points?

The main reason for purchasing an IOS device is undoubtedly the huge range of apps. If you can code it, you can find it in the app store and this is what Apple's success is built on. It doesn't matter what piece of hardware you choose, good or bad, as long as it has access to the app store it is a sure-fire winner.

In addition to the tried and tested technology, Apple tends to slim down their products and the iPhone 6 is no exception, barely thicker than a pound coin.

The most impressive feature is the biometric-based authentication system which lets you log in with a fingerprint without typing in the pass code. This works amazingly well and comes in handy when you only have one hand free.

The battery life is decent enough with a charge lasting upwards of a day with moderate usage.

Bad points?

Apple's propensity to change connector and charge cables between models has left many disappointed at having to scrap their existing accessories. Although the iPhone 6 shares the same lightning-USB cable as the iPhone 5 it's unlikely this will be the most common upgrade path due to contract lengths. A comparative communication test with the similar spec of a Windows smartphone highlighted some antenna inferiority.

Best for ...

Those who need to have the latest and greatest products. Gaining access past the pass code with the touch of a button is very cool and turns heads.

Avoid if ...

You are the practical kind who likes the idea of sharing a charger with family and friends. Those trying to save hard earned pennies should look elsewhere.

Score: 8/10, a diamond of an all-round phone with only a few rough edges.
