Hands on ... ASUS ProArt Monitor

In the mid 1990s a course in computer science forced me from the cosseted, predictable world of the Commodore Amiga to the lawless frontiers of the IBM-compatible PC.

It was a tough adjustment – after seven years of owning a reliable machine that required no maintenance, I found myself locked into expensive, yearly cycles of PC upgrades and repairs.

Thankfully the pace of change has slowed in the past few years. Despite the best efforts of Microsoft and Apple to bloat their software with even more bells and whistles, a well-specced machine from five years ago will still run the latest apps without problems.
