What is it?

A portable wireless speaker.

How will it change my life?

As Mrs D is fond of reminding me, "it's all about that bass" and when it comes to a big sound at what is a relatively budget price in the speaker market then look no further than the JBL Charge 2.

Good points?

The social mode sets this apart with its ability to allow up to three different devices to stream music in the same session, alternating between sources after each song. This system works well and is ideal for eliminating the usual arguments over music selection and making for an eclectic mix.

As the name suggests, the JBL Charge 2 has two connectivity ports for charging gadgets such as smart phones and tablets. Most technologies have been catered for with regards to charging with micro and traditional USB.

The overall design and functionality are superb for something deemed to be at the low-end of the market. It resembles an elongated drinks can resting on its side and booms out tunes from front and back speakers. The JBL Charge 2 is most ideally placed in the centre of a room to avoid half the party-goers getting muffled acoustics. Sound quality is admirable and easily fills any domestic rooms without having to resort to pumping up the volume to levels that will distort the output.

Bad points?

There does seem to be a bit of tone sharpness lost due to the heavy bass oriented drivers which control sound. The aesthetics of the unit are a tad too industrial for some tastes and unlikely to be a permanent focal point of the room unless you are a teenage boy.

Best for ...

Appeasing multiple music lovers by giving them equal responsibility for what is played. Works well at parties or for couples with different tastes.

Avoid if ...

You are looking for a more complete musical experience rather than a one size fits all budget method. Something more powerful is needed for larger spaces.

Score: 7/10, brilliant concept that's delivered well for a good price.
