What is it?

Health and activity tracker.

How will it change my life?

Wearable activity trackers have had a rough time of it lately with various reports questioning the accuracy of the data when compared against each other and next to ever evolving smartphone apps.

I agree that some of the stats can seem a bit odd at times and it can be difficult to believe that it took 2000 steps to get round the supermarket and back home on a Saturday afternoon while those many hours spent traipsing back and forward to the photocopier at work rack up less than a few hundred.

But in most cases I would urge people to look past the cold hard numbers and see the gadgets for what they can provide: motivation.

In their simplest form, activity trackers will provide feedback similar to a pedometer and monitor how many steps you take each day. They can also provide more sophisticated data and help with setting goals, something the Misfit Flash has been designed to do with aplomb.

Good points?

The Misfit Flash is extremely versatile in dealing with different activity types compared to other trackers which can fall foul of interpreting every movement in the same way. The flash can be mounted on shoes for cycling, worn on a key ring for walking and banded around the wrist for swimming to give a greater degree of accuracy in calculating the all important calories burned.

The lightweight structure is less intrusive than a regular watch so works well as a sleep monitor to chart how active you are during slumber. It also seems to garner your attention to actively keep you mobile and wanting to do more.

Bad points?

The materials used in the Misfit Flash have been downgraded since the plush metals of the shine version to a more plastic build which is reflected in the cheaper price. This can give the misguided impression that you're sporting a toy. It also lacks the easy-to-read LED screen of some rival models.

Best for ...

Those not keen on structured gym training regimes.

Avoid if ...

You need a regular kick up the backside from a human being to stick to your goals.

Score: 7/10, a solid performing device.
