From where our group of eight boarders is positioned, the off-piste slope looks precipitously steep and so we concentrate instead on the wider views afforded at a height of some 2350 metres in the Alps.
Stopping for a well-earned break at the side of a wide, smooth piste in the French ski resort of Flaine during a three-hour snowboarding lesson we sit down, boards still attached to our feet, and gingerly peer over the edge of the mountainside.
